Ice makers are their own category. Samsung French-door ice makers that freeze up and LG units with compressor trouble show up in Little Elm and Frisco kitchens constantly, and I'll tell you honestly whether a repair makes sense.
Sounds like this?
- Not cooling, or the freezer works but the fridge side is warm
- Ice maker stopped, freezes into a block, or drips
- Water pooling under the crisper drawers or on the floor
- Frost building up on the back wall of the freezer
- Loud humming, clicking or buzzing from the back
- Compressor runs constantly and never cycles off
- Water dispenser slow or dead
- Error codes on the display panel
What I do on the visit
- 01Check compressor operation, condenser and evaporator fans, and the defrost system
- 02Read the control board codes and test the sensors
- 03Clear a clogged defrost drain and clean the condenser coils if that's the cause
- 04Diagnose ice makers and water lines, and replace the module or valve if needed
- 05Tell you plainly if the sealed system is the problem and what that means for the decision
Brands I see most for this
What shows up in customers' homes. Not a claim of factory authorization.
- Samsung
- French-door ice makers that freeze up, defrost drain clogs that leave water under the drawers, and evaporator fan failures.
- LG
- Linear compressor failures on 2014 to 2018 models, and the fan and defrost issues that mimic them. I'll test before I blame the compressor.
- Whirlpool, Maytag and KitchenAid
- Defrost heater and thermostat failures, ice maker module replacements, water valve leaks.
- GE
- Dirty condenser coils, evaporator fan motors, defrost control problems on older side-by-sides.
- Frigidaire
- SY CF condenser fan faults, defrost problems, and door gasket wear.
Questions I get asked
- My freezer is cold but the fridge is warm. What does that mean?
- Usually the evaporator fan isn't moving cold air up, or the coils have iced over because the defrost system failed. Both are repairable. I check both before anything else.
- Is a Samsung ice maker worth fixing?
- Usually yes. The common fix is a sealing and defrost repair on the ice room plus a new ice maker if it's damaged. I'll tell you what yours needs after I look at it.
- My LG fridge stopped cooling completely. Is it the compressor?
- Sometimes, but not always. Fans, relays and control boards fail too, and they're cheaper. I test the compressor properly before I call it. If it is the compressor I'll tell you what the options are.
- How fast can you come for a fridge that's not cooling?
- I try for same day on refrigerators, especially in Little Elm, Oak Point and Hackberry where the drive is short. Call rather than message so I can slot you in.
